WHERE TO GET ALL THE SOFTWARE I HAVE ON MY WING (HTC Herald):
AT THIS LINK BELOW is a posting I made over at XDA forums. At the bottom of the post is my SIG FILE. All the additional WM software I use is linked to from this sigfile.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2917394&postcount=564
That includes the “PCM KEYBOARD” Application that gives you an iphone-like touchscreen keyboard on your Windows Mobile phone.
==========================
→→→→ PLEASE READ: IMPT
This is a PREVIEW VIDEO only, which is showing what you can do very easily on your Wing. BUT — the initial SOFTWARE INSTALLATIONS ARE NOT YET CONSUMER-FRIENDLY.
I am planning a series of specific-detailed videos that will walk you step by step how to do the software installations that enable some of these functions. Until then, →→ just know that your WING is not obsolete. Far from it! It has a full sliding keyboard, shoots video, does MMS messages — 3 things the iphone can’t even do at all yet.
FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO READ UP ON HOW TO DO these OS Installation upgrades, go to the bottom of this posting.
==================================
BUT YOU CAN RUN “GOOGLE MAPS” right now, on the standard-issued T-Mobile/Windows Mobile software. No prob at all !
TO RUN IFONZ APPLICATION LAUNCHER, you also do not have to modify your phone. It is just software that runs on your standard Wing.

HOW TO MODIFY YOUR WING TO RUN MUCH
FASTER, and enable some great additional features that T-Mobile simply doesn’t bother to install onto these great phones, then read on. And do me a favor, RATE-UP this video. It matters. Thanks
=====================================
1. In USA this phone, the WING, is offered by T-Mobile. The phone is actually designed & manufactured by HTC — the same company that has made the first G-phone running Android, Google’s new phone Operating System.
In Europe and Asia and elsewhere, THIS PHONE is called the “HTC Herald” .
2) So, start by going to the Overview wiki page for the HTC Herald, here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Herald
IT IS YOUR STARTING POINT.
3) This link is the TOP-LEVEL page for all XDA Forums pertaining to this phone model”: The wiki has distilled knowledge; whereas the forums have ongoing discussions. NOTE: The people there are very technically sophisticated. They WILL help newcomers, but …. they get really testy if you don’t bother to use SEARCH, or read FAQ’s about the specific phone. SO if you want help, you have to invest by reading some of the Overview info.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=348
4) SEARCH THE XDA-DEVELOPERS SITE:
http://tinyurl.com/XDAwing
5) Here is just a partial list of terms you will encounter. If you don’t recognize them right off the bat, then don’t invest time in modifying your WING — yet — unless you read up on each term. I wish it weren’t this complicated. And that’s one of my goals: To make this easy — when following along very detailed VIDEOS.
RUU – means ROM Upgrade Utility
HardSPL
SoftSPL
Radio Rom
ROM — this is the installation piece of software that contains an optimized OS plus streamlined applications that work with finger-navigation vs just-stylus.

its thanks to your …
its thanks to your internet connection EDGE that you get your position so its not so acurate but its ok sometimes
i use the full plan …
i use the full plan. i’ve never investigated the proxy.
but as for these telecoms and all their distinct charges for bandwidth, it ticks me off that i pay for wifi/internet, but a text plan would be separate. that’s b.s.
Hey do you pay the …
Hey do you pay the like $20 for internet or do you use that 5.99 proxy hack?
Neither. The beauty …
Neither. The beauty of this is that GOOGLE MAPS provides the GPS, i imagine as part of how it is constantly querying its system to draw the maps.
All i can say is I am out and about and if i turn on “use GPS” within the Google Maps app, then the device begins seeking satellite information and it’s pretty instantaneous how it locates you on the map. If you start driving the locator is moving with you.
btw, i have to make a whole new video. There’s a new G maps out, now w/ Street View. amazing
Just a quick …
Just a quick question did your herald came with the built in GPS locator? or are you using an app like “Quick GPS” thanks…!
Um, it wasnt hard …
Um, it wasnt hard for me because both my spl and ipl were 4.xx so i didnt have to hard spl.
But it isn’t to difficult. Just read until you understand everything.
Thanks for the green button tip.
Wow that’s great! …
Wow that’s great! good job.
Can you reply here for the benefit of anyone else reading here: Do you think I described it right as:
* not actually that difficult…
* but, until the instructions are presented more clearly, and in one place, it’s just cumbersome, & requires a ton of reading to make sure you’re not going to screw anything up
I’d appreciate your reply – to help others.
ALSO: just released is “Green Button” which ties iDialer to the green CALL button. Search it. Vastly better
I installed …
I installed everything perfectly. Thanks for all the help.
Hey do you know how …
Hey do you know how to change your ringtones?
THIS IS THE CORRECT …
THIS IS THE CORRECT PROCESS TO FOLLOW for the Wing, to use HardSPL. This is the one I followed, and the author of this thread also walked me through it, live, via chat.
This us the URL which redirects to the correct thread.

Only other i can …
Only other i can think of is lawfour(which apparently got hacked) and the ifonz home.
I think a good video(if you have time) would be just you recording yourself installing the rom and just telling us what your doing and what programs your using.
A question i have is, Is there a way to find out what SPL you have? and Is Hard SPL and USPL 2 different ways to flash your rom?
Actually I don’t …
Actually I don’t have my wing yet lol. I should of gotten it in the mail yesterday but some delay happened so i might get it today but most likely on monday.
I bought this phone from ebay because i didn’t want to pay retail and i used my upgrade a year ago so i still have another year to wait.
Yes, I’ve been on the site for about 2-3 weeks now trying learn as much as possible so i don’t brick my phone.

Click “More Info”
To jumpstart the process, you can do a SEARCH at the XDA-Developers Forum, by typing this simplified link:
tinyURL(dot)com/XDAwing
That will take you to the Google Search engine that has indexed the whole XDA site.
CONT’D (5)
The way …
CONT’D (5)
The way you install is using the active sync USB cable. These suped-up OS “ROMS” that people have optimized pretty much install like a standard T-Mobile Windows Upgrade installation. They all use an “RUU” — ROM Upgrade Utility — which is a Wizard that oversees the installtion. If you don’t know what RUU is, or jargon like that, you MUST use search there and read.
I will add a few more links to “CLICK FOR MORE” info for this video.
Your initial …
Your initial question was: Is this easy?
ANSWER: NO. Not the first time you modify the OS and add apps. Only because you need to follow a sequence precisely — prob takes a total of a half hour, maybe less. But you have to know what each piece of jargon means.
BUT, ONCE YOUR PHONE’s drive has been unlocked, enabling you to “re-flash a ROM” (means: “install a new OS package + apps”), then it is very easy to add/modify/change.
This is what I mean: It is NOT YET consumer friendly
Alright thanks.
Alright thanks.
CONT’D –
If you …
CONT’D –
If you don’t know what those phrases mean, you MUST first search there to determine. This is my point, it is not yet consumer-friendly.
(4) The ROMS contain the OS, you do not have to pre-install anything. In fact, you need to know that these installations wipe everything off your phone drive, everything. It starts from the ground up… but these OS versions are so much faster and cleaner and make up for Wing’s crappy slow processor. slide keyboard works 100% with ifonz
The best I can say …
The best I can say is this — because I am not one of the techs at XDA. You really need to know the standard disclaimers:
(1) I am not responsible if you damage or brick your phone
(2) to install a ROM you have to determine first if the ROM installer is for “Hard SPL” or “Soft SPL”– if you don’t know what that means, search there for thread “Hard SPL working!”
(3) This has to do with the way the internals are “signed” by the carriers, and also deal with the “bootloaders”. MORE
Sounds good, I was …
Sounds good, I was reading about installing the rom and i just got confused.
Am i supposed to already have windows 6.1 installed or does it install with the rom.
To actually install the rom, do i just download like the OTP v6.5 Throttle Launcher TouchFlo3D Biggy and open the file on my wing?
Also, with Ifonz can you text with the slide out keyboard?
Thanks in advance.
Really good …
Really good question: Okay, the truth is: Right NOW, the process to do this is straight-forward, but complicated, in that things must be done in a specific order. The whizzes at XDA-apps are amazing. They figure out everything. But the site-culture there caters to those who want to come learn and tinker.
But what I am doing, beginning December 08, is create a consumer-friendly front-end that makes these tasks accessible and easier, with video guidance. send me mail for more.
Is it hard to …
Is it hard to install the 6.5 rom onto your wing?
you’re welcome.

you’re welcome.
please tell me: how long have you used your Wing? What version of Windows Mobile did it ship with?
Did you ever get notification from T-mobile of an upgrade of the windows mobile software?
Had you ever heard of XDA-developers before?
What other WindowsMobile mod-sites have you used or at least visited?
this would help me to know how to structure this video series, based on if watchers of this video are mainstream consumers, hackers, or both. thanks!

Hi, in the (more info) link in the right-hand column next to this video, I have a link to my SIG FILE at the XDA-developer’s forum — the site where most of the best software mods for Windows Mobile is developed.
My SIG FILE links to all the software I have on my Wing (HTC Herald).
Also, THIS link will take you there too; it’s a link re-direct service like tiny-u-r-l.
