What is GPS?
There is car GPS and there are other type of GPS systems as well that you can purchase, and which you may be interested in, but only of course after you have learned a bit more about what GPS actually is and why you would want it in your vehicle.
What it is
The term GPS stands for global positioning system, which is a satellite based navigation system that is made up of a network of 24 different satellites. With GPS you are able to find out exactly how to get anywhere in the world instantly, which is great for a number of different reasons.
When you have one of these navigational systems in your car you will never again have to worry about getting lost or stuck in traffic. The most advanced navigational systems will tell you when there is a traffic jam coming up or other problems along the road that you are going to want to watch out for.
There are safety benefits for one offered by these systems and which you are going to want to be aware of. For example if you are the victim of car theft, the GPS tracking system will be able to assist in finding out where the vehicle is located. Especially with the rates of crime increasing all the time this is definitely a feature that is nice to have.
Another benefit of the navigational systems is that most insurance companies these days are actually willing to lower your monthly car insurance bill as long as you have one of these systems installed in your vehicle. Whether your vehicle comes with it already installed or you buy one yourself and install it on your own, it doesn’t matter as long as you have one in the car, they will be willing most likely to lower your rates.
Most the vehicles that are released today come standard with a GPS system included in them which is nice, but if you have an older model car you still have the option of getting a navigational system in your vehicle, as long as you go out and purchase and install one yourself.
It is pretty easy to see all the great benefits that these systems have to offer and why you need one in your vehicle. You should stay up to date with the times and make sure that you and your family are always as safe as possible, which you will be with one of these systems.
Where can I get a PDA that has phone, wifi, bluetooth, gps, satellite radio, windows mobile, mp3, walkie talk?
I want everyhing all in one device. Plain and simple.
camara too (video and still), 3g, world capable.
Nowhere yet.
Closest thing would be a T-Mobile MDA, with a separate Bluetooth GPS.
However, there's nothing that would allow you for a Walkie Talkie.
There is some software Satellite Radio, but its not really via satellite but via Internet with your Sirius subscription.
Forget about the Blackberry, it's a great device but it's not very expandable. Certainly no GPS, Satellite or even camera.
where can I get a cheap geocaching gps?
where can I get a cheap gps for geocaching?any recommendations on make/model.
I suggest either of the following – the eTrex H for $80 or the eTrex Venture HC for $115. The eTrex connects with a serial cable, and your computer might not have a serial port. It is very basic, with no mapping capability and a monochrome screen. The eTrex Venture HC has a color screen and longer battery life. It has 24MB of storage space for you to install maps if you want, and it uses a USB cable, which will definitely work with your computer if you bought it in the last 10 years.
The computer connectivity is needed because it will make it easier for you to have a lot of geocaches on your receiver. When you enter things manually, it takes more time and there is more of a chance for coordinate entry errors.

What is a good portable GPS system to buy for my car?
I need to get a portable GPS system.
It cannot be an in-dash one because I have a 2000 Toyota Camry.
Also it must be one of the talking ones that tells you where to go. I will be traveling from Indiana to St. Louis so I need one that has an accurate map.
So, I’m looking for the best GPS I can get for a good price. Can anybody tell me what type to buy? If you can provide me with a link it would be even better!
It is not an easy question to answer but you can’t go wrong with the top 3 GPS manufacturers PND models they have to offer.
With that said, Garmin currently is the most popular GPS model in NA, selling about 55% of all PND GPS sold in NA.
If price is no an issue, try the Garmin Nuvi 880 which is currently Garmin top of the line PND model. If you wish to save a few bucks, try the Garmin Nuvi 760 which is an excellent choice. Don’t buy EOL stuff since you will want to have a model that is supported for a while.
If you feel Garmin is not for you, consider the TomTom 930 or the Magellan Maestro 4250 or 4050.
You can also consider buying the NOH Garmin Nuvi 760 for only $329 from Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc that includes the Garmin factory ONE year factory warranty, the unit comes with pretty much everything you will need on a GPS device or if you are worry about cost but wish to have a portable GPS that includes TTS, try the Magellan RoadMate 2200T NOH for only $119.00 again from Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc.
It maybe easier for you to rent these GPS first from GPS4Rent to test drive each unit to make sure the unit will function to your expectation before committing to one.
You can find all the models I have described here on Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc website at http://www.autonav2000.com/default.asp or you can visit GPS4Rent and rent one. To find out more about the rental program click on this link http://www.gps4rent.com/
You can’t really go wrong with any of the TOP THREE GPS manufacturers Garmin, TomTom and Magellan.
Good Luck

Is there any free GPS services for cell phones?
I am thinking about getting the sony ericsson w760, i have AT&T, i would like to know if there are any services out there that provide free GPS.
If the phone has a GPS chipeset, then you can use any mapping application with the GPS in the phone. For example, I have a T-Mobile G1. It has a GPS, and when I turn it on and open Google Maps, it brings me right to my location.
I don’t think you need to pay extra for this.
Is it possible to download a free GPS tracking system to track phone free?
I want to download a GPS tracking system to track phones free. Please HELP!!!
Jeff, I truly don't think it's possible.
are there any car gps systems that utilize actual sattelite imagery for it's interface?
or is this something that might come in the future?
There is none that I am aware of at this time. You probably wouldn't want one, anyway. The satellite images are good, but they don't normally concentrate on roads over-all. The roads could be hidden by hills or trees. They also don't stand out without being highlighted in some way. All the vegatation and other things that show up in a satellite image is just extra clutter when you are driving and want to see the street or road you are on. The current map system is actually pretty good because everything is clear and free of clutter.
How can i find the gps location of my phone?
I lost my phone! I think it dropped out of my pocket sometime today but are there any gps programs that'll give me the cordinates?
No, sorry you'll have to find it. You should suspend service to the phone so whomever finds it will not run up a huge bill!!!
