Whats the best bluetooth gps receiver on the market right now?
It may not matter that I own a Palm 680 device since the receiver should work with either windows or palm. I live just outside the city and spend a third of my time driving in the city. I'm looking for some performance testing to backup an answer.
here's a link to ebays guide on bluetooth gps receivers

Golf GPS annual fee cancellation?
Does a golf gps system work if you stop paying the annual fee?
The GPS will continue to work, but the subscription is so that you can download golf courses onto your GPS unit.
Can I use my TomTom or any other type of GPS navigation in Morocco reliably?
I want to rent out a car and i don't know the country well, I'm going to use it mostly in the big cities.
Thanks
I have quite a good Sat nav, but it didnt work on the streets of Morocco. It recognised Gibraltar, then showed only the sea.
It is very difficult to find maps of Morocco on the gps. Look on google ther may be something there to help, though googlemaps show the larger areas of Morocco, there are many unnamed little streets. I think it will be very difficult to find.
Can you use different maps on a GPS system? Or are you stuck with the one provided on the CD?
I have a Becker Traffic Navigation GPS but I dont like the software. Is it possible for example to put TOM TOM maps on the SD-card and would this work?
not usually. this is how they make money.
I don't know any who will upload any maps.
what is the gps on the verizon phones for?
could i call the company and locate my phone at no charge? i have verizon. i also have the family plan, could i find out the current location of the other member's phone?
GPS is mandated since 2003 in all cell phones. The reason is for 911 to locate the individual calling in case of emergency.
Commercial applications now are offered to maximize location based properties. VZ Navigator is a real-time tool to give verbal instructions and directions to specific addresses, locations, and even "Find me" feature.
Chaperone is another location based service that comes as monthly subscription. It meant for parents to locate child phones. The application must be downloaded upon both the parent & child device with a monthly cost of $9.99 per month (same as navigator).
Back to your initial question, gps is not utilized to locate the other member of the phone. The nearest application would require chaperone with it being subscribed and notification sent to the handset indicating tracking being done upon the device.
Therefore, chaperone is not meant for anything other young kids. Adults and teenagers would simply remove the program to stop tracking capabilities.
Why do people believe that GPS tracking is so simple?
Okay, so it's a common belief that by using a GPS navigation system that people with access to the GPS system can track your whereabouts. I've heard this from several people.
The belief even goes into the idea that you can be tracked via unpowered electronic indentification chips using the same system.
The obvious question for this is how can something be tracked electronically if it doesn't transmit of a radio signal? Most GPS navigation systems are simply recievers of GPS satellite data, unpowered RFID chips simply bounce back a signal from a close range transmitter such as those found in shops that set off alarms when you walk out the door. There is no longe range intrusion of privacy incurred, in fact there is more risk of that whenever your mobile phone is turned on and transmitting a signal.
Why do people think that by submitting themselves to GPS navigations systems, and even to ID chips, that their location can be tracked internationally? Are they simply misinformed?
ed: I think you're talking about GPRS. That's a data broadcasting standard, not a positioning system. You're right about triangulation, that's what I meant about location via phone signal.
what you say is true; neither GPS tracking nor passive RFIDs provide such tracking capabilities.. but!
a GPS – GPRS device can track you whereever there is a GPS line of site and a GPRS coverage! there are already GPS boards with built-in GPRS modems that would enable remote long… very long range tracking (theoritacilly anywhere if both GPS and GPRS are available… some GSM networks supports positioning (some parameter in the network) so in the very near future – if its not available yet – you will find GPRS tracking devices that will incorporate Cell-positioning and GPRS for tracking!
also, Active RFID tags can provide short range tracking capabilities which depends on the RFID tag and the surroundings, such Active RFID signal can be sent at white noise level and yet be recognised using smart modulation/coding and deconding techniques.
but as for the "public" and people misinformation and errounos information about tracking; i think it came from hollywood movies! you know all these fansy gadgets and tiny "(chips)" used to locate people even inside building and below ground using super satellites and so on… (davinci's code, the recruit, many others)
Who provides the best car GPS units and why are they the best?
What GPS do you have? What has your experience been like? Why (or why not) do you recommend this unit or brand?
I concur. I did a lot of research prior to my purchase and feel Garmin makes the best, most user-friendly GPS units available today. My NUVI has a touch screen and gives turns by street name. It's very accurate, despite what I read online.
Keep in mind, these units aren't perfect. One time, I was driving on the interstate and there was an exit right on a bend in the road. The GPS unit decided it was shorter (not faster) to take the exit and get back on the highway. Once I passed the exit, it recalculated and I haven't had a similar situation since.
What is the cheepsest way to achive GPS?
Get an actual GPS unit like Garmin or Magellen?
Get a second hand laptop or portable PC and buy a gps module and software?
Please let me know what is the cheepest device and or the cheepest combination of devices to get a functional GPS device.
The actual cheapest is to buy a used iDEN cellphone that has GPS in it. I have two i58sr's – both have GPS functions on them, and I can program the units with my own custom Java programs for using the data. Newer iDEN phones have color screens, and still others have even the map software with it too. You dont need to have access to the iDEN service to have it work either.
