can any one tell me that nokia n95 gps work without gprs service and what is a roll of bluetooth in gps. ?
i want to buy a gadget with gps. but i dont have gprs enable services provider. will nokia n95 gps work
GPS and GPRS are two totally different technologies. GPS stands for Global Positioning System, a triangulation method using GPS satellites to calculate location, speed etc.
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a Mobile Data Service available to users of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and IS-136 mobile phone.
So, if your phone has a GPS chip, it will work with or without any GPRS service in the area. In fact logically speaking you don't even need a SIM card for GPS to work.
Some phones that do not have a built in GPS need a separate GPS receiver. This receiver communicates with the phone/ handheld to plot the location and process the data using a mapping software. This communication is enabled using bluetooth.
Have a great time!
Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive brand of GPS for geocaching?
I don't care if the batteries only last 4 hours, I'll bring extra. However, it should be user-friendly.
I use the Garmin etrex Legend C, while my friends use the Legend Cx. Since I'm not sure of the reliability of any of the other brands, I would suggest that you check out the forums on Groundspeak.com. Not only will you get a wider variety of opinions, but, occacionally, some of the members upgrade and put their old GPS on sale pretty cheap.
Good luck in the hunt.
Does anyone know the names of companies that provide GPS system for golf courses?
I own a Garmin iQue 3600 which is a PDA, where I can store all my contacts, documents like spreadsheets and word files, and has a built in GPS system.
With the mapsets that come with it, you can navigate anywhere in North America…. as I'm driving down the street, it actually tells me what address I am passing!
I purchased Intelligolf Eagle Edition, which allows for GPS mapping of golf courses, with many courses already mapped. The device is easy to use, and is very accurate. If you are mapping out your favorite courses, you can map 3 points or objects like bunkers, hazards, trees etc, as well as the 200, 150 and 100 markers and you can even map the front, middle and back of the green.
Courses are free to download or upload, unlike other devices like the SkyCaddie, where you pay an annual subscription.
I paid $382. cdn off Ebay, with 2006 mapset and full warranty(costs $599. U.S. from Garmin site) for the device including all the auto navigation kit, and another $60 cdn for the Intelligolf…. less then the SkyCaddie and course subscriptions.
I threw away all my maps, as I no longer need them.,… I just let the iQue3600 "tell" me where to turn…. yes it talks!
I even typed in "Golden Corral" when I was in Hilton Head, and it told me where to drive to get dinner!
Highly recommended!
which is better, nike+ or a GPS?
I'm looking for something to track my running…distance, time, pace.
Which is the better option? I want to be able to easily save my runs on the computer so I can go back and compare with previous workouts.
Price is also a consideration, I don't have an ipod nano.
Also how does Nike+ work? Is it a GPS type deal, or do you have somehow calibrate it? I don't want something like a pedometer which tends to be inaccurate as I don't run the same speed the whole time…
I just got a Nike+ and before, I was debating the same thing. Nike+ uses a previous calibration which you run to measure distance. Ex: You tell it your running 1.5 miles then you run it and tell it when your done. Once you do this it uses the number of steps you took to equal 1.5 miles and it uses this calibration for all your runs, also it comes with a separate setting for walking.
So if you change speeds often it might not be the best option. I simply use it for my easy 4 mile runs where I know I will run a constant speed. The nice thing about nike+ is you can listen to music while you run.
An 8 gig Ipod nano is $199 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&node=home/ipod/ipod_nano While a Garmin
Forerunner 205 GPS Running watch is $234
http://brandscycle.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=5652
If you want a highly accurate distance counter I would go with the GPS. If you know how far your running and want to listen to music get the Nike+.
I don't own a GPS watch so I don't know how well it works but the reviews look pretty good.
Also keep in mind with the price you pay for nike+ you can use the ipod nano for listining to music and watching videos.

Is the GARMIN gps system better than gps on cell phones?
I have the G1 from t mobile it has navigaton.. do you think I should still get a navigaton system since I will be traveling a lot ..or is the stuff on my cell and google navi just as good?
Fundamentally, they would use similar algorithms to figure routes, and very similar maps.
That said, the standalone GPS probably has a better chipset, yes a bigger screen (which you shouldn't be looking at when driving anyways), and will work where you can get a GPS signal, and is a one time cost to use. The downsides are you have to pay quite a bit for map updates. POI updates may be free, but they have to be available anyways.
With a mobile phone GPS, the software and maps come from the network , so can be refined and kept current rather quickly. You have to pay a monthly fee though, but it may be marginal compared to the outlay for a standalone GPS Nav and its updates. It is also handy to have one device.
You can also have interactive nav applications, ans well as get info on POIs immediately on the one device.
Given the choice, I'd likely prefer a mobile sat-nav system.
What's the percentage of cargo truck have GPS tracking?
I thought that if the recently hightjacked truck have GPS then the police could find it?
Not all trucks have a tracking system in them. When you see a truck with a white thing behind or on top of the cab, that is the satellite. Most of the larger companies have them since they can use them to track their trucks and also communicate load information to the drivers. Some even allow the drivers to send email - Werner Enterprises and J.B. Hunt are two. I don't know the percentage, but I know there are quite a few.
how acurate is the MPH reeading of a car GPS unit?
There is about a 3 mph difference between my auto speedometer, and my GPS unit. How accurate is the GPS unit
3 mph hour difference is with in normal limits. Neither the car or the gps is 100%. Car can be affect by tire wear and size of tires. Even gear wear can change it. With the gps there is lag time to the satellite. Only the military gps are pin point accurate
What company make the best GPS systems for a good price? And what model of it do u like the best?
I have heard Garmin makes really nice GPS systems but some say tom tom isnt bad however others say Sony is the best. Which are the best?
No handheld GPS devise is really great for a CAR!! For the money ANY…..LAPTOP NAV SOFTWARE is a better way to go!! What I mean is, for under $100.00 US you can buy software and GPS to plug into any laptop made in the last 10 years. This still is the smartest and best, by far!!
Another and better way to go other than the handhelds, laptops and PDA’s is the OEM CAR NAV!! WHY!!! It uses multi measurements!! Alpine is the best at this by far.. Moreover, has been the best in OEM and aftermarket for over ten years.
Most of Garmin's products are just toy for hikers!! None of the car or boat makers use it.
Multi measurements use in Alpine and OEM units means; it tracks your driving distances alone with the GPS satellite. It tracks, tire turns, speedometer and keeps calibration calculation to best position you if the GPS signals is lost or ever weak. Best of all is……the amount of additional info, like traffic, Zaget and other info. Plus they will talk to you!! Most OEM units are hands free. Alpine best…is only in Acura!! Acura Nav system from Alpine is the best in the world by far!! Best of all it can work with LIVE….local traffic. So it will re-route you quickly. This is without you doing anything! My wife loves it!!
Another good aftermarket unit, is the top of the line Pioneer for under $1000.00 US. Dealer cost is now under $600.00US!!
Now for a DEAL!! Get the Dual at Best Buy for under $500.00 US when on sale!! This is a great deal and far better than any hand held unit!!
Now for those portable/handheld units; TomTom get last years model….! They can often be found for half off retail price. So TomTom or Garmin is fine for basic info not driving. But buy last year’s model!! You are not getting much on the newer units!!
LAST and most important!! THE GPS WAR is OVER!!
CELL PHONES, like IPOD and TRIO is the way to go for the $$$ dollars!! Most of world's manufactures of GPS, know they have SHORT market life ahead, based on the new phones coming out!!
Navtec, the leading mapping software for all the above products…. was bought out completely by Nokia..! They are the 1# cell phone makers in the world!
So everyone is freaking out at all the above companies!!
They all will be out of the GPS/NAV market soon!! Why dose anyone need more than one GPS/NAV unit!! Moreover Cell Phones will work the best and be the most updated and offer the most features, like calling for HELP!!
In the NEW world, we will get everything on our phones!! Moreover will not ever have an GPS, Ipod or even a PDA! WHY because the newest phones and services make it, so you do not even need a home phone, internet nor cable TV connection or any Microsoft software!! IBM and AT&T new this back in the 80’s! Why do think IBM gave up on OS2? Because the future of PC and home entrainment will soon be on everyone’s cell phone!! NOT an I-POD!!
FYI
Many companies had products on the market to do all of this 20 years ago! The only difference today is, the NEW Mobile Web WAR and MP4!! Plus NOW…. AT&T, Google and Nokia plan to work to together on one format for NAV, Traffic, Communication, computing and entertainment, like games!! At the last S3 game convention everyone was mostly focused on Cell phone games future…. not Playstation nor Xbox.
The Mobile WEB format that wins in China cell phones, will soon dominate the world!! This means we all will get new phones with GPS, TV, Movies and every kind of software and communication on our Phones. Just look at what an I-Phone can new now!! This is nothing to what is coming out at CES2008
PS
Sony is the worst by far!! They were first in the market in the early 90's. But have fallen far behind everyone else.
